Dispatch From The Quest: Meet Waka Brown

Over the course of the next 24 weeks when I will be working with the writers in The Quest, I will be posting ‘dispatches’ from them to the GITS community. There are several reasons for this, the main one being educational: Hopefully you will learn something of value for your own understanding of the craft from the experiences of the Questers.

I should also add they are a great group of people, so I expect you will enjoy getting to know them.

Today I would like to introduce Waka Brown:

Waka Brown was raised in Topeka, KS by a Japanese immigrant psychiatrist father and mother who asked her children, “Why do these A’s have tails?” whenever they brought home an A-minus. Per their wishes, Waka followed her suggested path toward a career as Future Diplomat and received a B.A. in International Relations and M.Ed. from Stanford University, followed by a stint as an international relations coordinator in Japan. Currently in a suburb outside of Portlandia, Waka juggles her family of three boys (four, if you count her husband), and writes curriculum on international topics such as the radiation effects on the survivors of Hiroshima and Chernobyl, and the Ukrainian famine/genocide of the early 1930s. As a respite from these important yet undeniably depressing topics, Waka writes light and frothy screenplays in her spare time and in her head while driving.

Waka came up with a fresh twist on a high concept comedy, so I am excited to be working with her in The Quest.
