Essential Screenwriting Questions

Crowdsourcing 20–30 key questions about the craft of screenwriting.

This fall and winter through the auspices of the DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts, I will be producing a really cool video series. The basic concept is to take a series of screenwriting questions and have knowledgeable professional writers provide answers, then edit them into a lively, informative series of videos.

I could use your help. Consider where you are in your understanding of the craft of screenwriting. What questions would you like answered? What have you learned so far which you think is an essential subject area for beginning screenwriters? Questions like:

  • How do I get an agent and/or manager?
  • What are some tips for writing a good scene?
  • Why is the Protagonist such an important character?
  • How do I know if my script is ready to go to market?
  • How do I determine if I have come up with a strong story concept?

Please take a few minutes and post your screenwriting questions. While you’re at it, spread the word to your writing connections.

In my dreams, I receive 50+ screenwriting questions, then narrow down the field to a core group of 25.

Trust me on this: Assuming my team can pull off this video series, it will be a significant contribution to the online dialogue about screenwriting.
