“Forrest Gump in One Minute, One Take”
A few years back, our company sold a show called “Jake’s Movie” to MTV. Premise: Each week, a group of really amateur filmmakers burst into a different workplace environment and, using the employees, the offices, and whatever stuff they find lying around, produce a short version of one of their favorite movies. The pitch piece we sold featured the movie Titanic.
Then along came Be Kind Rewind (2008):
Jerry (Jack Black) is a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant he suspects of causing his headaches. But he inadvertently causes his brain to become magnetized, leading to the unintentional destruction of all the movies in his friend’s store. In order to keep the store’s one loyal customer, an elderly lady with a tenuous grasp on reality, the pair re-create a long line of films including The Lion King, Rush Hour, Ghostbusters, When We Were Kings, Driving Miss Daisy, and Robocop, putting themselves and their townspeople into it. They become the biggest stars in their neighborhood.
And now this: The movie Forrest Gump retold in one minute, one take.
Funny how ideas have a way of making the rounds.
