GOYOQ Forums

When I went for a run early last spring and the idea for The Quest emerged into my consciousness, I had no idea how things would shake out. That would include an initiative that arose from the GITS community: Go On Your Own Quest, whereby anybody could use the structure of The Quest to dig into the theory of screenwriting, prep an original story, then write a first draft of a full-length screenplay.

That is happening with well over 100 writers into Week 20 of the process, working on their original screenplays. And not only that, but also the GOYOQ Forums, an online resource for writers who wanted to Go On Your Own Quest. That was the original conception.

Now under the guidance of three moderators — Shaula Evans, Debbie Moon and David Evans — the site continues to grow. Here is a note from Shaula:

Incidentally, we’ve just opened up a script discussion area on the GOYOQ Forums. Right now, the scripts under scrutiny are: All About Eve, Citizen Kane, The Disciple Program, The Nines, and Shadow 19. Everyone is welcome to come and discuss the scripts you’re reading.
Also, if you are looking for scripts to read, don’t forget Scott has run several excellent series that analyze scripts or excerpts from scripts:
- the extensive script link library in the Genre Essentials series
- GITS Script to Screen series
- GITS Great Scene series
- GITS Screenplay Analysis series

This is precisely the type of thing I love to see happen, the spirit of the spec in action. Come up with an idea. Make it happen. Send it out into the world. See what happens.
