Great Scene: “Rounders”

A great scene from the 1998 movie Rounders, written by David Levien and Brian Koppelman.

Plot Summary: A young man (Matt McDermott played by Matt Damon) is a reformed gambler who must return to playing big stakes poker to help a friend pay off loan sharks.

The scene is self-explanatory with Matt’s V.O. setting the stage:

The scene covers a lot of territory — key exposition, character introductions, builds to a significant plot point — and all done in a most entertaining way due to Matt demonstrating his mad card skills. Great scene.
