Great story!

Back in May when I first launched The Quest initiative — over 3,500 logline submissions from 1,500 entrants — I made a first cut of 21 writers based solely on the strength of their story ideas. One of those writers was Lynelle White. I spoke with Lynelle [as I did with each member of that group] and found her to be a delightful individual.

Moreover she had a unique background: Graduating from the Air Force Academy in 1997, Lynelle became a military pilot, logging over 2200 hours of flight time between 1999–2006 before transitioning from active to reserve duty.

When I spoke with her, Lynelle was living in O’Fallon, Illinois. And like the other Quest finalists, I have been sending her the Core lectures. So I was delighted to receive an email recently from Lynelle in which she said this:

Scott,

Big changes have occurred for me since entering “The Quest”. Long story short, a friend of mine sent some of my writing samples to the executive producer of Army Wives (Lifetime TV) and I was just hired as a staff writer for the show.

This past week, I packed up a trailer and relocated to LA. It has been crazy and I’m ready to learn a lot from this experience.

Thank you for continuing to send the lectures to me. They are greatly appreciated and will no doubt assist me in the immediate future.

How awesome is that! Yet another example of someone outside the system breaking into the business. How? Write something on spec and make it a great writing sample.
