How would YOU write the sequel to “The Princess Bride”?
So I posted this about The Princess Bride yesterday. And updated it with this, a news item about a recent cast reunion. There screenwriter William Goldman spoke about the possibility of a sequel to the movie:
“I’m desperate to make it and write it and I don’t know how,” said an emotional Goldman, who also penned the scripts for “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “All the President’s Men.” “I would love to make it, more than anything else I’ve not written.”
Then I asked this:
What angle would you for a TPB sequel?
To which a couple of GITS readers responded. MindTheInk with this take:
The Pirate Princess
Westley disappears while trying to recover his kidnapped apprentice (who is also the love of Westley and Buttercup’s daughter).
Buttercup follows, doing the only thing she can think of to smoke out the suspect and travel the world unseen: she takes on the mantle of the Dread Pirate Roberts.
The daughter stows away on the ship. Now it’s the women out to save their men from unknown dangers.
Run-ins with colorful strangers and familiar faces (Miracle Max, Inigo as a swordsmith, etc.) ensue. Yadda yadda yadda.
SabinaGiado with this:
Princess Bride and Westley are in couples counselling. Unfortunately for them their counsellor is…the former Prince. Who’s done his time, cleaned up his act and is now giving back to the community by being a relationship counsellor.
This is not good for the already strained relationship.
Strikes me as a great exercise in ‘what if’ thinking. And could be a lot of fun to see what ideas the GITS community generates.
So how would you write the sequel to The Princess Bride?
