I dug up this 2005 interview with Shane Black who was a key figure in the spec script boom in the late 80s and early 90s, and whose screenwriting credits include Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, and The Nice Guys.
