Joseph Campbell quotes — Day 5

As we begin “The Quest,” I figured it was a good time to bust out some Joseph Campbell, progenitor of The Hero’s Journey. Campbell’s deep immersion into the world of stories resulted in some profound wisdom about human existence. I hope you find inspiration in his words. Today’s quote:

“The warrior’s approach is to say ‘yes’ to life: ‘yes’ to it all.”

As writers, some times we have to tap into the warrior aspect of our psyche. The odds against success are so long, the naysayers so many, our own doubts so strong. At some point, we have to fight back. Instead of giving into “no,” we say “yes,” embracing the possibilities of where our creativity may lead us.

Or as baseball great Yogi Berra famously said, “When you come to a fork in the road… take it.”
