Jule Selbo, “Gardner’s Guide to Screenplay: The Rewrite”
We did a bit pre-release hype for Jule Selbo’s new screenwriting book here, but now that “Gardner’s Guide to Screenplay: The Rewrite” is coming out this week, let’s make it official. I’ve read the book and it is excellent. It’s incredibly comprehensive, yet thoroughly readable. And the subject is a critical one because, as we all know, writing is rewriting.
Jule, who teaches screenwriting at Cal State Fullerton, also has another book on screenwriting — “Gardner’s Guide to Screenplay: From Idea to Successful Script” — and she’s evidently planning on a third one tentatively called “Genre for Screenwriters.”
For the longest time, the only book I could recommend on rewriting was Linda Seeger’s book “Making a Good Script Great,” but no more. In my humble opinion, Jule’s book is the new standard on the subject.
