Meet the newest member of the Black List family: Terry Huang
I’d like to introduce you to a fine young chap: Terry Huang. Franklin has brought him aboard as an assistant. Well, from what I can gather, a sort of super assistant. Let’s hear from Terry himself:
Hey GITS community!
My name’s Terry, and I’m the newest member of the Black List team.
A little about me. I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles called South Pasadena. You may recognize it from such classic films as Back to the Future and 13 Going on 30. I’m the middle child of four and received a number of blows to the head from my siblings growing up, which probably explains my fear of sudden jerky movements.
After graduating from my Jesuit (yeah, like the new pope!) high school in LA, I went to study economics at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. It was there I learned about Vineyard Vines and the importance of matching flamboyantly-colored polos with animal-embroidered chinos.
After college I worked in investment consulting, which is a job that sounds fancy, but isn’t. And then I worked at Google, which is also a job that sounds fancy, but really just comes with a lot of free food. A LOT of free food.
I decided to move back to LA last year to pursue my passion for screenwriting and began writing like a rabid Augustinian monk. I also started doing a lot of improv (UCB, Groundlings, Second City, iO West), so I could hone my skills of saying yes and holding invisible objects.
Some people say I have the taste of a thirteen-year-old girl. But what can I say, Taylor Swift just speaks to me.
Some movies I remember having a substantial effect on me are Jurassic Park, The Matrix, The Social Network, Millions, Mean Girls, Lost in Translation, Little Miss Sunshine, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Gattaca, The Departed, and Up, among many others.
My favorite Black List scripts from this year were Seuss and Rodham.
I am super excited to be joining the Black List team, and I’m here as a resource for all of you. If you have any questions (seriously, any), just reach out to me. I’m happy to help! The only dumb question is the one you don’t ask…and the one about tapioca pudding, because the answer is that it’s delicious.
I’ll be jumping in on conversations at GITS and on the Black Board, working on variety of projects for the Black List in general, and continuously improving my skills in telekinesis.
