Movies You Made: “It Practically Writes Itself”
March is Movies You Made month at Go Into The Story where we feature the work of independent filmmakers. Today: It Practically Writes Itself. Some background on the project from producer Daren Smith:
Eric [Snider] wrote this for a film blog [Complex] and we saw it and loved it. A week later we shot the script, changing only who said what lines to establish characters better. We stayed true to the script other than that. It was a fun short shoot, all done in one evening in Provo Utah.
Cast and Crew

Here is the 5 minute parody of a Disney meeting greenlighting the movie Maleficent.
I asked each of the filmmakers in this month’s series to answer this question: What inspired you about this particular story to make it a movie? Here is Daren’s response:
Honestly, upon reading the original post that Eric wrote for Complex.com, we just had to make it. It was such cinematic writing, it made the process of turning it into a short film very simple.
One interesting thing about this project is that Ken Craig (“Ted”) is an old colleague of the writer, Eric. They were in a comedy troupe together in college and are good friends, but Eric didn’t know we had cast him until we sent him the edit. Good times!
It’s also one of our most viral videos. It got picked up by movies.com and reddit.com, and did 20,000 views in under a week.
