Movies You Made: “Liminality”
March is Movies You Made month at Go Into The Story where we feature the work of independent filmmakers. Today: Liminality. Some background on the project from co-writer Nick Scott:
I’d like to submit to you the feature film I co-wrote called LIMINALITY that was recently released online. I was approached by the director back in 2012 to co-write the screenplay for a story he wanted to shoot locally. I was familiar with a couple short films he’d made, and felt this might be a great opportunity to earn myself a produced credit. I had also never written with a partner before, so I thought this would at least be a solid learning experience. Working from the director’s beat sheet (roughly 60 scenes), I completed a first draft, and together we wrote four more drafts. Once the script was locked, the producers crowdfunded the budget and raised over $5000 in less than 30 days. The film was shot using a RED camera over four weekends in September 2013, with local actors and crew. LIMINALITY is the first feature film to be set in London, Canada (where I currently reside). We held a public screening last September at the local retro cinema, and packed the house. Watching the film on the big screen with almost 400 people was an extremely exhilarating experience, one I won’t soon forget.

Here is the trailer for Liminality:
I asked each of the filmmakers in this month’s series to answer this question: What inspired you about this particular story to make it a movie? Here is Nick’s response:
I’ve always been intrigued by this ridiculous pressure young people feel to have their entire life figured out by the time they’re 25 years old. The reality is no one knows where they’re headed, and they really shouldn’t have a dedicated plan mapped out to help them get wherever they think they should be. So writing this story gave us the chance to explore the same feelings, ambitions and problems we faced when we were in our mid-twenties. I think the goal was to convey the message that not having your shit together is perfectly normal.
