Movies You Made: “Origin” by Danny Stack
For several months, I’ve been tagging a bunch of emails from filmmakers who have contacted me about their film projects, so I figured we should feature them this May. Today we feature the short film Origin written and directed by U.K.-based filmmaker Danny Stack:
Hi Scott — following up on Twitter, here’s some details of Origin, the short supernatural thriller I recently made. It won Best Horror at last year’s London Independent Film Festival, as well as screening at many other festivals. It tells the story of a woman who tries to keep her family together when her son falls ill after he’s bitten by a mysterious creature in the woods. ‘Don’t Look Now’ meets ‘Let The Right One In’.
I made the film to showcase the feature script version of the story, and also as a way to show what I could do as a director (although never really directed before, not on this professional level). I self-funded (and partially crowd funded through my blog), shot on Super16mm (so it was expensive), and got an amazing cast and crew together through dogged determination, naivety, passion and good luck.
