Movies You Made: “Somebody’s Daughter”
March is Movies You Made month at Go Into The Story where we feature the work of independent filmmakers. Today: Somebody’s Daughter. Some background on the project from writer-director Gareth Peevers:
We shot the film in Scotland over a weekend on a couple of Canon 7Ds with compact prime lenses. You’ll see the majority of the film is set in a moving car, so I spent a lot of that weekend lying in the back of the car with the DOP trying to keep out of shot, and being so glad I invested in rehearsal time with the actors prior to the shoot. It was a testing shoot with some hicups along the way (including some travellers interrupting filming and trying to sell us a couple of ferrets in a cage), but I’m quiet proud of the resulting film. I learnt a hell of a lot from that weekend.
The film has been screened in competition in a few International festivals and was a finalist in the CAR SHORTS online shot film competition back in October. We’ve only just recently turned of the password and made it avaliable online.

I asked each of the filmmakers in this month’s series to answer this question: What inspired you about this particular story to make it a movie? Here is Gareth’s response:
I like movies that make you feel something and this story was attempting to do that. I liked that it plays with audience expectations, and that it’s about how we can misinterpret people’s behavior, especially if they’re bad at communicating. That’s something I’m really interested in and explore a lot in my writing. The frustration and impact of bad communication.
