Movies You Made: “Veneer”

For several months, I’ve been tagging a bunch of emails from filmmakers who have contacted me about their film projects, so I figured we should feature them this May. If you have a movie, either short-form or long, with which you were involved — writer, actor, director — please either email me or post details in comments. Happy to promote them on GITS.

Hi Scott

Firstly I’d like to thank you for your site. I’ve been a daily reader since moving to LA from Australia about three years ago, and it’s been invaluable — strangely it’s more the sanity it’s given me than the information.. but it’s given me a lot of both.

I thought I’d email about a short I wrote and directed called Veneer. It was the first thing I’d ever directed (went from acting, to screenwriting which took over — thank god haha). I made it to get myself attached to direct a feature I’d written and sold — which happened, I’m very pleased to say!

Cast are all quite well known Aussies: Hanna Marshall, Rohan Nichol and Ben Gerard. For the rest of the crew, go here. Produced by myself, and Harvey House Productions. DOP was Nino Tamburri.

On a side note, a new feature I wrote (FOREIGNERS — with Nick Tomnay) just got added to the blacklist mail out this week / month (?) for scripts getting good reviews. I was so pleased about this because I’d been reading about the blacklist on the site for so long! (and please excuse my ignorance about how the mail out works)

And thanks for the ups on Foreigners — we had a great producer attached, but she went and got herself over committed and under-effective, so we took it back out to the world. Have some good interest, hopefully the blacklist shout out might firm one of them into paperwork!
