Movies You Made: “Wingman”

March is Movies You Made month at Go Into The Story where we feature the work of independent filmmakers. Today: Wingman, an 8-part web series. Some background on the project from co-writer Luke Davidson:

About a year ago we ran a crowdfunding campaign to fund the project and start building our initial audience. Thanks to over 100 supporters we were able to just reach our target amount (not without our share of nervous moments in the final few days!). Part of the reason for our campaign’s success was that we were fortunate to sign Guy Edmonds to the project early on, which helped give the project credibility and publicity as Guy is well known for his great work across stage and screen in Australia. Even with the campaign’s success, it took an incredibly collaborative and creative approach to make this series a reality with the budget we had — including rewriting several scripts during production to ensure we didn’t overspend. Now that it’s all finished, we’re just keen to share the finished results with as many people as possible.
Series Premise: When Scott buys contraceptives for his beloved girlfriend Becky, he’s visited by a vengeful fundamentalist angel who tells him they’ve committed a grave evil. To save his girlfriend from eternal damnation, he must reproduce with 7 women in 7 days.

Here is Episode 1 of the comedy web series Wingman:

I asked each of the filmmakers in this month’s series to answer this question: What inspired you about this particular story to make it a movie? Here is Luke’s response:

Wingman was partly inspired by the classic Monty Python sketch, “Every sperm is sacred.” We really liked how the sketch embraced the absurdity that can arise when you take some piece of dogma through to its logical conclusion. We hoped to do something similar with Wingman.
