NY Times: Holiday Movie Preview
The NY Times offers up its annual November — December movie overview today. The print version is 30 pages long, crammed with full-page ads for a variety of upcoming movies including Four Christmases, Gran Torino, Yes Man, Quantum of Solace, Bolt, Milk, The Reader, and Seven Pounds. Some of the articles available online:
“Stripping the Spy Down to His Manners”: About the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace.
“A Curious Life, From Old Age to Cradle”: About the new Brad Pitt movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which is based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
“Five Attention-Getting Turns”: Spotlights five memorable roles from relative newcomers.
But probably my favorite is a slideshow from “five insiders from the film industry,” discussing noteworthy holiday movies.
* This year, writer-director Ed Zwick intends to watch Made for Each Other (1939) starring James Stewart and Carole Lombard
* Catharine Hardwicke, director of Twilight, remembers fondly Mark of Zorro (1940)
* Kelly Reichardt, director of Wendy and Lucy, pimps the little known movie Reckless Moment (1949)
* Jenny Lumet, screenwriter of Rachel Getting Married, thinks Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) is a subvervise story
* Christopher McQuarrie, the screenwriter of The Usual Suspects, reminds us that Die Hard (1988) is a Christmas movie
It’s worth picking up the print copy of this Sunday’s NY Times just for the Holiday Preview, so you can plan out your movie-going schedule.
