In the movie there is the addition of Walt’s four grandchildren entering the church one by one, each under Walt’s extreme watchful eye.

Here’s a link to a Go Into The Story article about how rookie screenwriter Nick Schenk wrote Gran Torino longhand on legal pads at Minneapolis bar called Grumpy’s. He used the bartender for feedback as he wrote. Here’s a photo of the bar, the birthplace of Gran Torino.
