Pixar “color scripts”

I swear every time I teach one of my screenwriting classes, I learn something new. For instance in this current “Pixar and the Craft of Screenwriting” course, there’s been some tremendous analysis of Pixar movies. And then there’s this is: Color Scripts. Here’s an example of one for the movie Up:

Here’s one for The Incredibles.

There is this book: The Art of Pixar: 25th Anniv.: The Complete Color Scripts and Select Art from 25 Years of Animation.

And this article on the book from Wired magazine.

Anybody have any idea what color scripts are used for?
