Question: What are the best secret backstories in movies?

The other day, I was bumping around the Internet — which is, as we all know, a series of tubes — and I stumbled onto this: Greatest Film Plot Twists, Film Spoilers and Surprise Endings.

Several years later [in Time Wasting Time], I emerged with multiple lacerations, a hip pointer and a hickey on my neck the shape of Venezuela.

Anyway as I was lying down recuperating from my adventure, nursing my wounds and a mojito, it occurred to me to ask GITS readers, what do you think are the very best secret backstories in movies? Shocking secrets well kept, then revealed. Like this:

“She’s my sister and my daughter.”

“Holy shit! The dude’s dead!”

Maybe movies where a detective or a cop uncovers a big secret. Or a character reveals something shocking about their personal history.

There seems to be so much emphasis nowadays on stories with Big Twists, I thought it would be fun to see what y’all thought were great examples of this trope.
