Screenwriting Master Class tip of the week: I’ve been teaching screenwriting online part-time since 2002 and it never ceases to amaze me how vibrant a sense of community the writers I work with create in our sessions together. Through a combination of forum and message boards, where participants can read comments and post their thoughts on their own time, workshopping story ideas and script pages, and teleconferences, it’s remarkable how meaningful those shared experiences can be.
With each session, I encourage people to stay in touch or better yet, create a writers group to support each other, and there are literally dozens of such connections that have emerged from my classes, some stretching back as far as a decade ago and still going strong. Many of those writers have gone on to find representations, sell scripts, make movies and carve out a career.
