Screenwriting 101: Stan Chervin

“I always try to bang out a first, rough draft as fast as I can. There’s a story of George Abbott, the theatre director, coming into the theatre of a musical he was rehearsing and seeing the choreographer with all of the dancers on stage, but none of them were dancing. Abbott asked why. The choreographer said he was trying to figure out how to choreograph the number. Abbot told him, ‘Well, do something! That way, we can change it.’ I think it’s always easier to revise a script, even a truly awful one, than face the tyranny of the blank page.”
