Spec script sale: “Best-Man-A-Thon”

Universal picks up comedy spec “Best-Man-A-Thon” from first-time screenwriter Richard Rapozo:

Story follows a groom who’s planning his wedding and his two buddies who battle to be best man.

Sometimes when you read a spec script logline, all you can say is, “Wow. Why didn’t somebody think of that idea before?” That is just a great, clean high-concept — and it seems so obvious. Congrats to Mr. Rapozo for coming up with it.

UPDATE: Except upon further review, it appears there was this project that sold to MGM in 1999:

Title: May The Best Man Win Logline: When a guy announces he’s getting married, his two best friends go to war to be chosen as his best man. Writer: Greg DePaul Hank Nelken
 Agency: Klane Agency, The Jon

 Studio: MGM
Price: Low six figures to mid six figures Genre: Comedy Logged: 12/2/1999 More: To be produced by Neil Moritz and Brad Luffat Original Film.
No new ideas left apparently.
