Spec Script Sale: “Dog’s Best Friend”

Gold Circle Films acquires family comedy spec script “Dog’s Best Friend” from writer Ben August. From THR:

A “free-spirited” dog and his commitment-phobic master break up a dognapping ring.

And check this out:

Newbie scribe August wrote the spec while living in Vietnam teaching English [emphasis added].

Another first-timer. And will August have a nice schmooze story to while away the first five minutes of his inevitable Hollywood meet-and-greets: “You taught English! In Vietnam! Seriously?!?!”

August is repped by APA and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.

By my count, there have been 106 spec script sales in 2011.

Only 55 spec scripts sold in 2010.

Only 68 spec scripts sold in 2009.

Spec script sales are up 100% year-to-date over last year. That means that technically at this point, sales this year are exactly double those in 2011.

After December 10, 2010, two more spec scripts sold before the end of last year, so in order to actually double sales, the grand total this year would need to be 110 spec script sales.

Anybody care to lay down the over-under on the chances of 4 more specs selling this year?
