Spec Script Sale: “Ground Control to Major Tom”

Disney acquires romantic comedy spec script “Ground Control to Major Tom” from writer Jason Micallef. From Deadline:

They are keeping the plot line under wraps, so it’s unclear how David Bowie will be referenced, since the title is a line from his classic song Space Oddity. Several studios chased the comedy.

Reported sale price: Mid six figures.

Micallef repped by WME and Underground.

By my count, this is the 38th spec script sale in 2012.

There were 31 spec sales at this point last year.

Spec script sales are up 18% year-to-date compared to 2011.
