Spec Script Sale: “Ink and Bone”

Dimension Films with a preemptive purchase of thriller spec script “Ink and Bone” written by Zak Olcewicz. From THR:

The horror thriller concerns a female book editor who is assigned to help a reclusive horror writer finish his latest book only to discover the writer is being held prisoner in his home by everything he’s ever written.

This comment is interesting:

“I immediately read and loved the concept of Zak’s script,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company. “It reminds me of Stephen King’s work and I feel that Ink and Bone could be a successful upscale thriller for Dimension.”

Two things:

* “It reminds me of Stephen King’s work”: Similar but different in a big way considering King’s brand.

* “…could be a successful upscale thriller”: What precisely is an “upscale thriller”? A quick Google search turns up a review of Arbitrage and another one for Kidnapped, both of which use the words “classy” and “intelligent,” which would seem to be determining qualities of this particular sub-genre.

Olcewicz is repped by WME and Prolific Entertainment.

By my count, this is the 21st spec script sale of 2013.
