Spec Script Sale: “Monster Problems”

Paramount acquires post-apocalyptic road movie spec script “Monster Problems” from writer Brian Duffield. From THR:

Details are being kept under lock and key but the project has been described as a post-apocalyptic road movie in the vein of Mad Max and Zombieland with a John Hughes-esque love story at its center.

With all the dystopian scripts floating around Hollywood, what makes this distinctive? Well, how about weaving in a “John Hughes-esque love story”?

Duffield is repped by Gersh and Circle of Confusion.

He also wrote the Black List script “Jane Got A Gun” and “Your Bridesmaid’s a Bitch” which is set up at Skydance.

By my count, this is the 60th spec script sale of 2012.

There were 44 spec sales by this date last year.

The 60th spec script sale didn’t occur last year until August 2nd.

Spec script sales are up 27% year-to-date compared to 2011.
