Spec Script Sale: “Reminiscence”
Legendary Pictures acquires spec script “Reminiscence” written by Lisa Joy. From Variety:
Legendary Pictures has paid low seven figures for Lisa Joy’s sci-fi thriller “Reminiscence,” beating out several studios for the rights to the spec over the weekend making it one of the biggest script deals of the year.
While details of the project have been kept under wraps, the pic is said to fit in well with Legendary’s other sci-fi and fantasy fare Legendary is known for making like “Pacific Rim,” “Man of Steel” and the upcoming “Seventh Son,” 300: Rise of an Empire,” “Warcraft” and “Godzilla.”
Deal is for a reported $1.75 million.
Joy is repped by UTA.
By my count, this is the 70th spec script sale of 2013.
I’m always happy when a writer sells a spec script, their sweat equity and creative courage paying off. But this particular deal gives me great… pun intended… joy as Lisa studied screenwriting with me. She is a terrific talent, witness her work on the TV series “Pushing Daisies” and “Burn Notice,” and the upcoming HBO TV series “Westworld” Lisa co-wrote with Jonathan Nolan.
Congratulations, Lisa!
