Spec script sale: “The Many Deaths of Barnaby Jones”

Appian Way picks up one of the Black List 2008 scripts — “The Many Deaths of Barnaby Jones” from writer Brian Nathanson:

Nathanson’s original screenplay, about a teenager in a circus for the dead who is trying to bring his true love back to life, landed on the unofficial 2008 Black List of most-liked screenplays in December.

Nathanson, repped by CAA and Benderspink, also has his original script “The Occasionally Interesting Anti-Adventures of an Unnamed Girl” in development with Scott Rudin at Disney.

Here’s another description of the plot:

“A teenage apprentice in a macabre circus for the dead yearns to bring his true love back to life, but not before encountering the many dangerous and mysterious gothic characters that stand in his way.”

Done Deal Pro lists it as a “dark fantasy” — which feels about right.
