Spec script sale: “The Sitter”

Fox Atomic picks up its second project in two days, this time in a bidding war for comedy spec “The Sitter” from writers Brian Gatewood and Allesandro Tanaka:

Script, described as a cross between “Superbad” and “Adventures in Babysitting,” sparked a heated bidding war Wednesday. Earlier in the day, Paramount seemed to have the advantage, but infighting between Vantage and the parent studio may have torpedoed the studio’s efforts. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura was attached to one of the Par bids.
Gatewood and Tanaka have been cranking out a number of teen-themed comedy scripts in recent years. They have the college romp “Who the Hell Is Sanjay Patel?” in development at Universal.

Per Hollywood Reporter:

The Fox division has just purchased Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka’s original screenplay “The Sitter,” with Michael De Luca on board to produce. A day earlier, the company bought a comedy pitch called “Girlfriend in a Coma” from Marco Schnabel and Larry Stuckey.

Both are edgy, youth-oriented comedies, which would plant them in the same demo as future releases “Miss March,” due in March, and the Diablo Cody-penned “Jennifer’s Body,” a horror-comedy starring Megan Fox that’s set for September.

So put “teen comedies” up on your bulletin board for Fox Atomic.
