Spec Script Sale: “Time Tweaker”
Lionsgate acquires science fiction spec script “Time Tweaker” written by first-timer David Crabtree. From THR:
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is described as an event-style movie with sci-fi and time-jumping elements.
Crabtree is repped by UTA and Benderspink.
By my count, this is the 84th spec script sale in 2013.
There were 94 spec script sales year-to-date in 2012.
NOTE: As the year draws to a close, I will be going back through other potential sales as aggregated by other sites and confirm those I can. There is always gray area in tracking spec sales. Some deals that go public are actually options, including free options. I do not include those in my numbers. That said, I do expect the total to increase. Plus we still have a week or so for other deals to emerge. For example last year, there were 5 sales in December.
Bottom line, I doubt this year’s total will match last year in which 99 specs sold. But it will be close, suggesting the spec market is still strong.
Per “Time Tweaker,” always great to see another first-timer break in as a writer via a spec script sale. Congratulations, David!
