Spec script sales: “Going the Distance” and “The Roommate”

Two spec script sales to report. Former New Line script reader Geoff LaTulippe sells rom-com “Going the Distance” to — who else — New Line:

LaTulippe, who’s been a script reader at New Line for four years, credited creative exec Dave Neustadter with helping develop the story.”The essential story is that the couple knows that the long-distance relationship is probably a bad idea but they like each other too much to stop,” he said. “It’s a hybrid of Dave’s relationships.”

In the other sale, Sonny Mallhi sells thriller “The Roommate” to Screen Gems:

Roommate, set in the tenuous world of college dorm life, pulls together two strangers, Sara and Rebecca, to live in a freshman hall. Their relationship goes great until Rebecca starts to get a bit nutty and target Sara’s pals.

This sounds like an attempt to resurrect the late 80’s / early 90’s “blank from Hell” sub-genre:

THE CRUSH- The puppy-love girl from Hell

PACIFIC HEIGHTS- The renter from Hell
