Steamboat Willie
Since the Hollywood Tales anecdote today is Walt Disney recounting when he came up with the idea for Mickey Mouse, I thought it would be appropriate to post the cartoon that started it all in 1928: “Steamboat Willie.” Technically Mickey Mouse had appeared in two previous cartoons, but this was the first starring vehicle for MM. “Steamboat Willie” was an immediate hit, but has been the source of legal controversy over the years: Per Wikipedia:
The copyright of the film has been repeatedly extended by acts of the United States Congress. However, recent evidence suggests that the film may be in the public domain due to technicalities related to the original copyright notice.
The cartoon is about 7 minutes long and worth checking off your list of historic movies to see.
