Superbad: “Worst movie ever” or crossover sequel with Pineapple Express?
Our friend Julia over at “The Rouge Wave” opines that Superbad is the “Worst Movie Ever”:
But SUPERBAD was an awful movie. I’m not going to go all Betty Friedan, Susan Faludi, Naomi Wolf, Camille Paglia on you here but — yes I am. Misogyny, anyone? How about a little side of contempt for women to go with that? And a nice dollop of dehumanizing objectification right on top. How about some nice, deep fried, completely unfunny, uncharming little-boy whining and freakish obsession with getting laid? Yeah, yeah, I know that all men, regardless of age are obsessed about getting laid. I’m from Planet Earth too.
Now comes this rumor courtesy of First Showing — a crossover sequel involving Superbad and Pineapple Express:
Franco, who may get my vote for the best on-screen stoner ever, actually clarifies the situation. He explains that Sony has been pushing for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who wrote both Superbad and Pineapple Express) to write a sequel to Superbad, however, Rogen and Goldberg don’t want to actually write one. “And so, an answer to that was to do a Superbad / Pineapple Express crossover, an unprecedented crossover movie with two directors, Greg Motolla and David Gordon Green, each directing half of the movie and somehow these characters get together, which doesn’t make sense at all, but could work.” I’ll be damned, they’re actually trying to make it happen! And if you’re still shaking your head in disbelief and mumbling about how that could never work, Franco even goes on to pitch an idea that could work.
I suppose it [crossover sequel] has to happen sooner or later, what with the small community of A-list comic actors in Judd Apatow’s universe. The mind boggles at the possibilities — hopefully stoner humor would prevail over misogyny.
Speaking of “worst movies ever,” the first awful flick that pops to my mind is A Time of Destiny (1988).
