“The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas.”

“The best way to come up with a good idea is to have lots of ideas.”

So you’re working on a spec script and you’re absolutely sure it’s a winner high concept. Great. Let’s say you sell that script to Hwood. Even better. Now let’s imagine you’re Hwood’s “flavor-of-the-week” and your agent sends you around to meet a bunch of producers and studio execs. After they congratulate you on the sale of your script, the next words out of their mouths will likely be:

“So what other ideas you working on?”

Will you have something to pitch? Not just any story, but a great idea?

It behooves you mightily to have a roster of great story ideas. And the best way to come up with great one is to generate a lot of ideas. Most will be marginal or worse — but the more you brainstorm, the more likely you’ll find those rare gems worthy of a great script.

But how to come up with story ideas?

Drop by on Sunday. I’ve got a special Halloween treat for you. One of the best resources I know to help generate story concepts.
