Udate on complimentary classes for “Quest” entrants
Last summer When I opened up submissions for “The Quest,” I said that everyone who submitted a logline would get a complimentary 1-week Core or Craft class with me through Screenwriting Master Class. Little did I know I would get over 1500 entrants.
Nevertheless I am a man of my word and thus far have made good on that offer to 350+ people.
If you submitted a logline for “The Quest” this last summer and have not claimed your complimentary class, here are some options for you:
* Core VII: Theme [October 28-November 4, 2012]: I will enroll the first five people who email me for this upcoming class.
* Core VIII: Time [December 3-December 9, 2012]: I will enroll the first five people who email me for this upcoming class.
* Craft classes: Beginning in January 2013, I will be offering 8 Craft classes:
— Character Development Keys
— Character Introductions
— The Coen Brothers and the Craft of Storytelling
— Create a Compelling Protagonist
— Handling Exposition
— Pixar and the Craft of Storytelling
— Story Summaries: From Loglines to Beat Sheets
— Write a Worthy Nemesis
When those roll around, I will give up to five Quest entrants the opportunity to enroll in one class each for free.
* Lectures: Many people have chosen the option of receiving lectures as an equivalent of taking a class. If you are interested in the lectures from one of the Craft classes [except the Coen brothers course which I haven’t finished yet] or Core classes [Core I: Plot, Core II: Concept, Core III: Character, Core IV: Style, Core V: Dialogue, Core VI: Scene, Core VII: Theme, Core VIII: Time], email me.
NOTE: This offer for a complimentary class extends only to people who I can verify emailed me at least one logline for “The Quest” competition last summer. The offer is good only for Core or Craft classes, not the Prep or Pages workshops.
Finally I have gotten a bunch of emails asking if I intend once again to offer the opportunity for a group of writers to participate in “The Quest” for free. Currently I am working with 8 writers each of whom is just now starting to write the first draft of an original screenplay we have been developing together. I want to get through that process [another 10 weeks], then assess things. But given how positive the experience has been so far with this group of Questers, I am inclined to do this again in 2013.
So if you aren’t already, start generating story ideas. Strong commercial story ideas. You should be doing this as part of your daily writing practice anyhow. If I run “The Quest” competition again, the first thing I will be looking for are great loglines.
