Update: Caine’s Arcade

Last April as part of the “A Story Idea Each Day for a Month” series, I posted this about Caine’s Arcade:

A filmmaker Nirvan Mullick happened to be the first customer at Caine’s Arcade, comprised entirely of cardboard boxes, sundry items and a young boys imagination, housed at his father’s auto parts store in East Los Angeles. Nirvan made a video. That video went viral in a big way resulting in a scholarship fund for Caine’s college education. But now there’s even more. Check out the follow up video:

This, my friends, is a great story, one that exemplifies what I mean when I talk about the ‘spirit of the spec’: having an idea, creating it, putting it out there, and seeing what happens.

Caine had the spirit of the spec when he created his cardboard arcade.
His father had the spirit of the spec when he supported his son’s creative aspirations.
Nirvan had the spirit of the spec when he decided to make a movie about Caine’s Arcade.

And now barely a year later there is the Imagination Foundation.

And the Global Cardboard Challenge.

In this ‘new’ world with such an incredible degree of interconnectedness through social media, there is no better time to listen to your creativity and embrace the spirit of the spec.

Here are some videos of Caine who spoke at USC as a Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship, along with his father and Nirvan:

Spread the word: The Global Cardboard Challenge is October 6th.
