Regardless of whether you laud him or ridicule him, it’s no doubt that Terrence Malick is truly a visionary filmmaker. Here are some of his many motifs, shot types, themes and imagery that he tends to use in his films.

Movies are primarily a visual medium. While screenwriters are limited in how much we can ‘direct’ a script, we can certainly be cognizant of cinematic opportunities in our scene description to evoke images in the mind of the script reader.
