Video: “Science vs. Cinema: ARRIVAL”
A half-hour dive into the science of the hit science fiction movie Arrival.
A half-hour dive into the science of the hit science fiction movie Arrival.
Featuring interviews with screenwriter-exec producer Eric Heisserer, director Denis Villeneuve, actors Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, author Ted Chiang, and several scientists and linguists, this is a cool exploration of the science of Arrival.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet…
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
Okay, that’s pretty harsh. Sorry. But seriously there are two big reasons to see Arrival.
First, if you complain about derivative Hollywood filmmaking, just a bunch of prequels and sequels, reboots and remakes, this is an original movie. Moreover one aimed squarely at a deeply under-served audience: Thinking people. That’s right, if you are sick and tired of turning off your brain when you enter a movie theater, you are in for a treat as Arrival fully engages your brain.
But it also engages your heart, the emotional throughline of the Protagonist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) completely compelling. And that’s the second reason you should see this movie: It takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride, leaving you deeply soulful after the experience.
Hopefully the movie receives multiple Academy Award nominations which could keep the film in theaters longer, but since we can’t see into the future — unlike some movie characters in the vicinity — don’t tempt fate.
Go. See. Arrival. NOW!
