Where do you find inspiration for your writing?

It’s a lonely thing… writing. Even if we take our gear to the local coffee joint, surrounded by the buzz of caffeine fueled activity, the existential act of writing is a one-on-one thing: The Writer and the Story.

Sometimes the words flow like a fine wine.

Often, struggle as we may, we can’t even get the cork out of the bottle.

In other words, writing can be a hard, lonely exercise in temporal futility.

We all have our coping skills to get through the slog of writing a story, but what I’m curious about in this post is where do you find your inspiration?

Yes, I know. The story itself can be inspiring. The very act of writing, too. But when it’s not and you need inspiring, where do you go?

Do you read… poetry, books, scripts?

Do you watch movies?

Do you commune with nature?

I would be especially interested to hear about any online sources you may have found you return to for inspiration. If there are enough recommendations, maybe I’ll aggregate them for readers.

Finally, I guess it’s no surprise, one way I find inspiration is through quotes of writers on writing. Over the years, I’ve accumulated on this site by my estimation over 400 quotes.
