Write Pages: Scene-Writing Challenge!
Observant GITS readers will note some method to my madness with regard to the last two monthly Noon series. In May, it was 90s movies. In June, it has been 30 Days of Screenplays. What is that but the first two of three from that essential screenwriting mantra: Watch movies. Read scripts. Write pages.
Can you see where I’m going for July? That’s right: Write pages!
To wit, next month is another Scene-Writing Challenge.
You may remember, we inaugurated this series in March 2013. Links to all of those posts here.
This time around, a little something different. To provide an additional boost of motivation for this upcoming series — to get people to WRITE PAGES — I am giving away some of my Core classes to Scene-Writing Challenge participants. That’s right: For free!
The Core curriculum provides a comprehensive, coherent, character-based approach to screenwriting theory, eight 1-week online classes. I only teach them once per year. Here is the schedule:
July 7 — Core I: Plot
July 21 — Core II: Concept
August 4 — Core III: Character
September 1 — Core IV: Style
September 15 — Core V: Dialogue
October 27 — Core VI: Scene
November 10 — Core VII: Theme
December 2 — Core VIII: Time
To qualify to take one Core class for free, all you need to do is write and submit ten [10] Scene-Writing Challenge posts. If you complete all twenty [20] Scene-Writing Challenge exercises, you get two Core classes for free.
You can choose any of the Core classes as your free gift.
That’s what I’m prepared to do for you to encourage you to write pages. Here’s what you can do: Provide suggestions for scene-writing prompts. Here are a few examples from the last series:
Write a chase scene without cars
Write a scene with a one-sided telephone conversation
Write an action scene with no dialogue
I’d like to put together 20 good scene-writing prompts for the upcoming challenge. If you have some ideas, please head to comments.
Then beginning on Tuesday, July 1 and continuing daily (Monday-Friday) through Monday, July 28, come here at Noon Eastern Daylight Time to find that day’s prompt.
Write a 2–3 page scene.
Copy and paste into comments.
Keep a running tally of your posts.
When you hit 10 daily scene-writing posts, you qualify for a free Core class of your choice.
Write all 20 posts, you get two free Core classes.
