Writing question: Do you go to a public place to write or need total privacy?

When it comes to writing, I take the monk approach. Not the TV character, the religious type. You know, sequester myself in a room, close the door, shut off outside stimulation, do everything I can to transplant myself from ‘this’ world into my story universe. I find distractions kill my concentration. But I know a number of writers who much prefer plying their craft in a public place, thriving on being around other people.

Insert mantra: “There is no right way to write.”

How about you: public or private? Why do you prefer one over the other? If public, what venues do you favor?
