X-Files: I Want to Believe
Okay, I confess — I was an X-Files junkie and in particular the episodes that spun the far-flung web of conspiratorial intrigue, everything from alien abductions to black oil, Cigarette Smoking Man (a failed novelist!) to Krychek and, of course, two great Protagonists: Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, and Dana Scully, played by Gillian Anderson.
The show was created by Chris Carter and serviced week after week by a crack writing staff that included Frank Spotnitz, Vince Gilligan, Howard Gordon, Glen Morgan and James Wong, all of whom have gone on to work on and / or create other successful shows. In fact, David Duchovny even penned 8 of the show’s scripts.
I was deflated after seeing the first X-Files movie, too focused on trying to wrap up loose ends and service the entire series’ plot to the detriment of the heart and soul of the show, the relationship between Mulder and Scully. But there’s a new movie coming out — The X-Files: I Want to Believe and freed from much of the series entanglements, it looks to be very, very cool. Here is a trailer for the upcoming movie which is scheduled to debut on July 25th. I’m excited!
