“You know you’re a screenwriter when…”
Todd Griffin over at The Movie Quill has a fun series going on: “You know you’re a screenwriter when…” Here is his current post:
You know you’re a screenwriter when — you eavesdrop in on people’s conversations and jot down what they are saying, catch phrases, cadences etc… and you also whip out that notebook every time you leave the house and explore, discover something new and wonderful and unique and interesting that one day you can put into a script.
This is precisely how I overcame my loathing of long lines when I lived in LA — grocery store, post office, bank: listen to the ‘dialogue’ all around me. I’d even close my eyes and try to envision what I was hearing in screenplay format. Don’t recommend going that far as people cut in front of you as you drift off in your screenwriting reverie.
