I’m sure some would quibble about whether a writer can achieve perfection in a story or not, but the instinct to strive for perfection is certainly something common to the craft. And at certain points in the process, that aspiration to make something as clean and spotless as possible has its place, I would argue in the final stages of rewrites and editing…
But not in initial drafts. There we’re just searching for the story. Zero Draft is fundamentally a journey of discovery, so the point here — to focus on being prolific — is spot on for our current enterprise.
Just pound out pages. Get the words down onto paper. Commit to reaching FADE OUT.
