Zero Draft Thirty: Let’s chat!

Zero Draft Thirty: Let’s chat!

I wanted to create an open forum to discuss the best way to facilitate the Zero Draft Thirty challenge. At its most basic level, I envision a really simple thing: Every day I will do a ZD30 post. It will include some sort of inspirational / informational writing quote and perhaps my ruminations about that quote. Then I would invite folks into the comments section of that blog post to share their experience:

  • How many pages they wrote that day.
  • How they are feeling about their writing.
  • Any insights they may have had during the process.
  • Links to resources / articles to help with our writing.
  • Offer words of encouragement to fellow ZD30 participants.

Is there anything else we could / should be doing in these daily posts? I’m open to suggestion. It just can’t be too complicated on my end because I will be cutting back on the time I spend blogging in November to focus on pounding out the zero draft of my comedy script.

Dalton Trumbo would have totally been down with ZD30…
writing in his bathtub.

A thought: Would anybody be willing to write up a paragraph or two or three about their experience writing their story? Perhaps that’s something we could do in December, solicit observations from folks. I’d be happy to post the best of those on the blog.

Next a request: Is there someone who has any skills at graphic design who would be willing to prepare a downloadable Zero Draft Thirty calendar like this one for NaNoWriMo?

Instead of word count, set it up with pages. Each day could have a box for: 1 page, 2 pages, 3 pages, 5 pages, Other. Something as simple as a calendar could be a helpful motivational tool. I had planned to do that with my online calendar. Maybe something printable, visual, and tactile could be inspirational to ZD30 participants.

I’ll up the ante: If someone would be willing to create a ZD30 Page Counting Calendar, I will give them a free Core or Craft course through Screenwriting Master Class.

Finally if you have any ideas about how to make the ZD30 experience a more helpful, valuable, meaningful one this November, please post your thoughts in comments.

Onward!
