Universal wins bidding war for action thriller “Black Box” from writer David Guggenheim. From THR:
After Air Force One goes down over America, an investigator’s life is put in jeopardy when he discovers that the plane didn’t go down due to technical issues, as was the official cause, but actually was shot down.
Another strong high concept. And Hollywood’s fixation with the President of the U.S. continues following up on the sale of two other spec scripts this year: “Olympus Has Fallen” and “White House Down”.
By my count, this is the 75th spec script sale in 2012.
There were 66 spec script sales by this time last year.
The 75th spec script didn’t sell last year until October 11th.
Spec script sales are up 12% year-to-date compared to 2011.
