2011 Report Card [The Wrap]: Universal Pictures

Every year, The Wrap does a ‘report card’ on the box office performance of all the major Hollywood studios. Today: Universal Pictures.

Grade: C+
The studio passed the $1 billion mark and got out of the market-share cellar on the strength of hits like “Bridesmaids,” but the year still featured too many flops

Universal had a mixed year: Big successes with Fast Five and Bridesmaids, but then the poorly received and performing Cowboy & Aliens. However all of that was offset by the quote of the year from studio president Ron Meyer who candidly told a group of students at a speaking engagement: “We make a lot of shitty movies. Every one of them breaks my heart.”
