429

That’s the number of pilot scripts ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox ordered for the 2011–2012 season. Want to see a list of them all including loglines? Go here.

429. Out of that by my count 76 were produced as pilots. And of that less than 30 were picked up as series.

Every so often somebody in TV World tries to create an approach that ‘works.’ Some way to minimize costs, maximize profits. But every time they futz with the system, like buying less pilot scripts, they seem to end up with worse series.

So just maybe a 7% success rate of pilot script to series is actually a successful approach.

Any of you TV writers / fans have some thoughts on that?
